First Original Composition (Howard Cable) for Seaway Winds Concert Band

                         SEAWAY WINDS   ANNOUNCES   2008- 2009 CONCERT SERIES

 

Seaway Winds Concert Band , now in its 7th season, announces their  2008-2009 Concert Series. There are three concerts this season, starting on Saturday, October 4, at 8:00 PM at Aultsville Theatre. If you missed hearing the Dream of Power Suite, commissioned by Ontario Power Generation for Seaway Winds, composed by Canada’s foremost composer, Howard Cable and premiered  at OPG’s 50th Anniversary on June 27and 28,  it will be performed again at that concert, complete with BOOM ( to blow up the coffer dam) and anvil ( to build the power station) . Guest soloist for the October 4th Concert is Garth Hampson, former RCMP vocalist, who also sang the National Anthem at this year’s Maxville Games. S/Sgt ( retired) Hampson will lead the audience in singing favorites from Britain as Seaway Winds pays tribute to London’s  end of the summer “promenade” concerts with a traditional “Last Night of the Proms” . Bring your Union Jacks and warm up your vocal chords !! Also enjoy jolly tunes from Scotland, Ireland and Wales , and “ Pomp and Circumstance” March.

The 2nd Concert in the Series is “ A Nativity Christmas” on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Nativity Co-Cathedral, featuring Bishop Paul-Andre Durocher , vocal soloist. Seaway Winds’ Assistant Conductor, Raymond Lacroix, will direct this performance of holiday favorites. The Bishop will lead sing-alongs, and sing, “The Lord’s Prayer”.

The final Series concert , “Spring Sing and Swing” is  on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Aultsville Theatre and will include Cornwall’s Chorus Novus , directed by Brian Hubelit. The ensembles will perform together such stirring pieces as “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and each group will perform separately ;  Chorus Novus providing the “Sing”,  and Seaway Winds playing “swing” tunes.

Tickets for the Series of three concerts  are available at Cornwall and Seaway Valley Tourism , 11 Water St. West, or at the Cornwall Square Administration Office ( 2nd Floor) for $30 ( adults), Seniors( 65 + ) / Students $25 and children under the age of 10 , accompanied by an adult , are FREE. 

The Seaway Winds is a community band, and welcomes new members of all ages who can play at least at an intermediate lever and have  their own concert band instrument.
