Constitution

Guidelines for Band Members (April 2005) These guidelines for band members have been prepared by the Executive to promote the Band’s smooth and efficient operation and to help improve the Band’s overall performance.

Rehearsals

  • Commit Wednesday nights during the band’s season to Band rehearsals.

Arrive at rehearsal early enough to allow for set-up and warm up before a 7 p.m. start.

Keep your music in good order so you can get the pieces quickly when needed.

  • Mark your music (in pencil) as indicated by the director.

Absences

  • Inform the director if you must be absent as soon as you are aware of it.

  • See that your music is available to the Band, if required, at rehearsals you must miss.

"Woodshedding"

  • Perfect your parts at home so that rehearsals can be devoted to ensemble playing.

Pay attention to all aspects of the music in your home practice.

Mark the music (in pencil) for reminders as needed.

Practise pieces that you dislike as well as your favourites.

  • Spend some practice time on broadening your playing ability.

Concerts

  • Come attired in the proper uniform: summer- band golf shirt, black slacks, shoes and socks, black bucket hat (optional); winter- tuxedo shirt with black buttons, band bow tie and vest, black slacks, shoes and socks.

Bring a music stand unless advised otherwise.

  • Bring clips, clothespins, etc, to hold your music in place at outside concerts.

Band Property

  • Keep Band property (music, vest, tie, folder, instruments) you have in good condition.

  • Return the band items you have if you leave the Band.

Other

  • Serve on the Band executive or other positions.

Help with set-ups and take-downs whenever possible.

Feel free to give suggestions, comments and criticisms to an Executive member.

  • Help the Band grow by recruiting potential members, suggesting new performance venues or events, selling concert tickets and seeking new funding sources.
