
Barb Hunter grew up in a musical family in South Bend, Indiana. At 4 years of age she started playing the piano. Flute was her next instrument at age 8 followed by cornet at age 9. While in high school, Barb was a church organist and choir director and played trumpet in the South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana Symphonies. At age 16 she was trumpet soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony and South Bend Symphony.
After graduating from Indiana University ( BMusEd w/Honors and MMus), Barb played in the Phoenix Symphony and taught Jr. high school band in Tempe, Arizona. In 1971, she accepted a position teaching Instrumental Music at Montreal West High School, currently named Royal West Academy. In addition to her teaching career she taught trumpet and Music Pedagogy Methods at McGill University and Concordia University. She has played trumpet in various ensembles in Montreal, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Encore Brass Quintet. She has conducted the the 306 (Maple Leaf) Wing Concert Band in Montreal from 1996 to 2007.
Barb has two sons, and five grandchildren. Her "hobby" is showing and breeding Standard Longhaired Dachshunds under her registered 'Maxdox' kennel name. She is a Life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, and was a charter member and President for 11 years of Eastern Canada Dachshund Club.
